During Sony's E3 2007 keynote, President and CEO Jack Tretton announced a new partnership with developer NCSoft, creators of online titles like Lineage, Guild Wars, and City of Heroes. As part of the partnership, NCSoft will begin developing exclusive online titles for the Playstation 3 and its Playstation Network.
This exclusivity can apply to both new and current IPs, although no specific games were mentioned. "Only the Playstation Network can support the types of games that NCSoft has become famous for" says Tretton. At the moment, it is unknown whether NCSoft will continue to support other platforms.

Fact: Microsoft still locks the hard drive, despite being huge, from having retail channel games installing on it. So even if the hard drives had a 1:1 attach rate on the consoles, which it doesn't... thanks Core, Microsoft wouldn't let them do it anyway.
Now if NCSoft somehow learned to magically shrink their games to under 256MB, the current DLC limit as mandated by Microsoft, as well as loosen the certification process (which apparently does fuck all to stop the glitches anyway), 360 would be the perfect spot for PC style MMOs in the console world. But that's not happening anytime soon.
Just be glad you have Phantasy Star and FFXI. Two of the greatest console MMOs of LAST GEN.
Sometimes I feel like being mean.....

What does that mean? As far as I can tell, their games don't exactly push technical boundaries.

They aren't limited by hardware boundaries, they are limited by Microsoft policies.

Dumnuts, its cuz PSN is free and Open. MS has a closed network. Look at it from a developer point of view. Not to mention NCSOFT is a Korean company...360 fails in Asian countries.

I'm just wondering why they didn't make a bigger deal of this exclusive action...maybe it's console exclusive or something.
Full exclusive rights to NCSoft would probably be the biggest announcement from their keynote...yet they put little emphasis on it.

I think they mean PSN is the only console willing to do free live updates, a la Guild Wars ( since guild wars is basically updated 2-3 times a week with fixes and additions, as well as items and whatnot)
If they add GW to PS3, it will rock, I always like more people seeing how great GW is.
If GW becomes a PS3 exclusive... well... forget Guild Wars. time to /ragequit, along with 3 million other PC playing fans

NCSoft is not a PS3 exclusive devaloper yet, they are just developing exclusive online titles for the PS3.
The are still doing Marvel Online, with is PC/360 exclusive.

NCSoft doesn't have anything to do with Marvel Universe Online. Cryptic is the developer and Microsoft is the publisher.

Partnering with Son„ is a good way to fail.
Interesting to have that as a goal, NCsoft. Hopefully Son„ will cover your losses.

I was playing City of Heroes last night and even though I drift away from it for a few weeks here and there, I always end up going back to it. It is the only MMO that has captured my attention over a long perion of time. I tried Guild Wars as well, but I am just so sick of fantasy online games that I'm burnt out on them.

While a lot of the comments above there are true and worth discussion, Jack sure is crapping on every PC user who's been playing Guild Wars for a long time without any problems.
... on top of that, I'm sure NCSoft could work something out to make a game on the 360 happen. Recall Final Fantasy XI, which was kind of in the Live world, but kind of not either ... it would be like that.

Meh. NCSoft can't make a good MMO to save its life.

PSN is server hosted (unlike LIVE and WiFi Connection), which is much better for MMOs
so technically, yes

The only one of those games mentioned above that NCSoft ACTUALLY made is Lineage. ArenaNet (Guild Wars) and Cryptic Studios (CoH and Marvel Universe Online) are completely independent development studios and are not involved in this deal at all.
